Anand Engineering College, Agra organized an Industrial Visit to Goa for Civil Engineering students in which students learned about bridge and building construction in coastal region. In 4 days excursion program students visited various construction sites. The industrial visit begins with a visit to Atal Bridge also known as Atal Setu. Atal Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge between the towns Panaji and Porvorim, in Goa. It carries NH 66 over the tidal part of the Mandovi River. It is the third longest (5.1 km) cable-stayed bridge in India. The bridge is constructed by the GIDC (Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation) in collaboration with construction major Larsen and Toubro.. The bridge comprise of cable stay portion and viaduct. Students also visited ACC Ready Mix Concrete plant at Dhargal (Goa). ACC is one of India’s largest manufacturers of R.M.C. with more than 85 modern well equipped plants in major cities. In this plant students get familiar with the computer controlled operations and manufacturing of concrete. It took almost 2 hours to visit and understand the manufacturing and delivering process. Mr Prashant Naik incharge plant and Mr Mohit gave deep insight of technical and non technical aspects. They also gave some samples admixtures to add into the nominal concrete so as to attain quick setting of concrete. The hospitality given by the industry staff was tremendous and overwhelming. After completing the visit, a set of questions that is related to the visit and the Cable bridge is served to the students along with their traditional class tests in order to assess the level of retention of knowledge after a few weeks of the visit. Students found this method very useful and they were able to remember a fair bit of information. Such Industrial visit provides the students a “dynamic” real time feedback that is very useful in the program learning outcomes process. It enables educational institutions to build close ties with industrial experts and also to achieve the learning outcomes to students. Several broader educational partnerships have emerged as a result of these visits. This has resulted in enhanced visibility for the students among their learning outcomes and their portfolio.
